Abstract
ABSTRACT
Sexual immorality among adolescents has become a growing concern in many societies, including Nigeria, affecting moral values and academic focus. This study examines the role of Islamic teachings in curbing sexual immoralities among senior secondary school students in Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State. The objective is to assess how Islamic principles on morality, chastity, and social behaviour influence the conduct of students.
A quantitative research design was adopted, and data were collected using structured questionnaires administered to a sample of 90 students and teachers selected through stratified and simple random sampling techniques. The study explored key Islamic moral teachings and evaluated their implementation within the school and home environments.
Findings revealed that Islamic teachings significantly shape students’ attitudes towards sexual morality when they are properly taught and reinforced. Nevertheless, factors such as peer pressure, social media influence, and weak parental supervision often undermine their impact, limiting their effectiveness in practice.
The study concludes that Islamic moral education, when consistently integrated into school activities and supported by family and community efforts, can serve as a strong tool against sexual immorality among students. It recommends active collaboration between educators, religious leaders, and policymakers to reinforce Islamic ethical values among adolescents through curriculum enhancement, counselling, and public sensitization.
