Motivation as a Tool for Secretaries’ High Performance and Productivity in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria

Abstract
The aim of this study is to know the effects of Motivation: As a Tool for Secretaries High Performance and Productivity in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. The area of the study was Ahmadu Bello University (A.B.U Zaria). The population comprises 102 secretaries. Random sampling was used and selected 70. 70 research questions were administered to the secretaries of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria (A.B.U Zaria), 62 were filled and retrieved. The questionnaire was the instrument used and collected the data from the respondents. The instruments have two sections, section A for personal data and section B for questionnaire items. The researcher administered the questionnaires with the help of 2 research assistants who accompanied the researcher for the distribution and collection of data, percentage method was used to answer the research questions and the findings reveals that secretaries of the area of the study are not given the right kind of motivation as required from the management, the study also concluded that motivation has no room in the area of the study. The findings to this research revealed that in-adequate motivation of secretaries in terms of work in various field of specialization will not yield effective performance and productivity as expected in the organization. Therefore. It was recommended to motivate and develop staff by providing equipment that will ease their work, enhance their skill and ensure adequate productivity.
