Abstract
The research work is centred on Gender Inequality and Women political Participation in Rivers State. The objectives are basically to examine the level of women political participation in Rivers State and to identify the challenges women faces in politics in Rivers State. The theoretical frame work adopted was women suffrage theory by Samine D. Den Voir and Belgin (1980) with the argument that whatever a man can do, a woman can do better. The research methodology adopted was primary and secondary method of data collection. The research findings were that political participation of women in politics however falls short of the desired 30% by international standards and 38% as entrenched in the National Gender Policy (2006). In this regard, the study recommended the review of discriminatory practices, economic empowerment of women, equal representation in governance among others.
