Design and Implementation of a Computerized Patience Booking and Appointment System(a Case Study of the Federal Polytechnic Mubi Clinic)

he design and implementation of a computerized patient booking and appointment system for Federal Polytechnic Mubi aims to address the inefficiencies and limitations of manual scheduling processes in the institution's medical center. The manual approach often leads to long queues, misplaced records, double bookings, and delays in patient care. This project introduces a web-based system that streamlines the appointment process by enabling patients to book consultations with medical personnel online, thereby minimizing waiting time and enhancing service delivery. The system was developed using PHP for the server-side scripting, MySQL as the database management system, and HTML/CSS for the user interface. It allows patients to create accounts, schedule appointments, and receive confirmation and reminders, while the administrative interface enables health staff to manage appointments, view patient history, and monitor scheduling. The system also provides secure login authentication to protect patient data and ensure privacy. The outcome of this project demonstrates a significant improvement in administrative efficiency, data management, and patient satisfaction. It also contributes to the broader goal of digital transformation in healthcare management within academic institutions. The system serves as a scalable prototype that can be adapted by other health centers in similar academic environments to optimize their appointment handling and patient care services.
