Abstract
Abstract
This study examines the effect of delegation of authority on public sector performance, using the Central Administration of Kano State Polytechnic as a case study. The research investigates how the delegation of decision-making powers and responsibilities influences administrative efficiency, employee productivity, and organizational effectiveness within the institution. A descriptive research design was adopted, and data were collected through structured questionnaires and interviews administered to selected administrative and academic staff. The findings reveal that effective delegation of authority enhances staff motivation, improves decision-making speed, and promotes accountability and job satisfaction. However, the study also identifies challenges such as inadequate supervision, lack of trust between superiors and subordinates, unclear job roles, and fear of responsibility, which often hinder the successful implementation of delegation practices. The study concludes that proper delegation of authority is essential for achieving high performance in public sector organizations. It recommends that management should clearly define responsibilities, provide adequate training for staff, establish effective monitoring mechanisms, and create an enabling environment that encourages trust and accountability.
