Performance of Cooperative Societies in Marketing Their Agricultural Products in Rano Local Government Area

Abstract
This project was carried ot to examine or assess the performance of three (3) selected
cooperative societies (All farmers Agricultural Products Association, Guska Vegetable Crop
Producers Union Rurum Fishmen Association) in marketing their agricultural product in Rano
Local Government Area of Kano State.
The result obtained through distribution of questionnaire to members of those selected
cooperative societies and farm budgeting showed that the three cooperative societies were found
wanting in carrying out the marketing function of cooperative societies such as transportation,
processing, storage, grinding etc. which lead to obtaining economy of scale and better services to
their members and to the ultimate consumers.
They perform locally in the marketing function such as processing Rurum fishermen Association)
Storage (All farmers union) do not perform either storage or processing of their produce.
The result of this study recommend that for marketing cooperative to perform well they should
have to adopt modern ways of marketing so as to perform effectively for better returns.
