Abstract
Investigation of some selected antibiotics resistance on Escherichia coli isolated from urine sample at Federal Medical Centre Gusau, Zamfara state. Antibiotics are bioactive molecules capable of inhibiting the growth of bacterial pathogens. Samples were analyzed using simple microbiological techniques and subjected to antibiotic susceptibility testing using the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method. The results indicate varying resistance levels: Streptomycin resistance with a 12mm zone of inhibition, Erythromycin showed intermediate resistance (20mm), while Gentamicin (24.5mm) and Ofloxacin (41mm) demonstrated susceptibility. These findings highlight the growing threat of antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains in urine sample. Strengthening infection control measures and implementing effective antimicrobial stewardship programs are essential to curb resistance trends and ensure optimal patient care. Hospitals must prioritize evidence-based antibiotic prescribing practices and continuous surveillance to mitigate multidrug-resistant E. coli strains.
