Abstract
This study examines the need for establishing a Printing Technology Department at Kaduna State University (KASU). With the increasing demand for skilled professionals in the printing industry, especially in Kaduna State and the northern region of Nigeria, the absence of specialized training in printing technology has created a significant gap. The study aims to assess the necessity, feasibility, potential benefits, and challenges associated with creating this department. A descriptive research design was adopted, and data were collected from 60 respondents, including university management, faculty members, students, and industry stakeholders. The study revealed a strong need for the department, with 90% of respondents agreeing that it would address industry demands, enhance employment opportunities, and foster technological growth. The findings also highlighted the feasibility of establishing the department, with support from stakeholders and existing infrastructure as key enablers. However, challenges such as inadequate funding, high setup costs, and a shortage of qualified personnel were identified. The study concludes that establishing a Printing Technology Department at KASU is both necessary and feasible, provided strategic measures are implemented to address the challenges. Recommendations include securing funding through partnerships, recruiting qualified staff, developing infrastructure, and promoting awareness about the importance of printing technology education. The proposed department has the potential to bridge the skills gap, drive innovation, and contribute to local and national economic development.
