An Analysis of the Representation of Africa in Broadcast Media: a Case Study of Ait

Abstract
Broadcast Media is a said to be a potent tool locally and intentionally as it has a a distinct presence in our homes today by providing us with wealth of information that concerns our social, cultural and political processes.This study analyzed how Africa is represented in the broadcast Media through the lens of a Pan-African television station, African independent television (AIT). Furthermore, the study adopts the agenda-setting theory and the cultivation theory and the study sheds more light on the AIT broadcast culture. The study goes deeper in explaining how the broadcast Media represents people who seem to have a different ideologies, values, and culture which seems different from the Western viewpoints/dominant codes by tagging them as "others".
Moreover, a mix method (Qualitative and quantitative) was adopted for this study with the use of a descriptive survey research research method and the study sampled two (2) communities in the Port Harcourt LGA which are; Nkpolu-oroworukwo and Diobu ( Mgbundgwu Mile 1 and 2) where the sum total of 100 questionnaires were administered to the respondents but 96 questionnaires were retrieved and the staffs of AIT were extensively interviewed by the researcher as it aids to the progress of the study by resolving the research questions which was earlier stated which aid in the provision of possible solutions and recommendations the aim and objectives which the study tends to achieve.
