Influence of Cultural Heritage on Contemporary Fashion Design in Oyo State

Abstract
Contemporary fashion design is a dynamic realm where cultural influences play a pivotal role in shaping trends, styles, and consumer preferences. This study examines how cultural history shapes modern fashion design in Oyo State, Nigeria. Six research objective were raised and translated to research questions and three hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Survey research design was adopted for the study. The population for the study comprises of all cultural enthusiast in Ogbomosho north. Multistage sampling procedure was used to select a total of 200 respondents from the area of study. Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Data collected were analyzed with descriptive statistics such as frequencies, percentages, mean, standard deviation and inferential statistics such as Chi square, t-test and PPMC. The findings of the study revealed that specific traditional textile significantly influence contemporary fashion. Among the most acknowledge are Ankara (X̄= 4.66). Tie and Dye (Adire) (X̄ = 4.25). Aso oke (X̄= 4.16) and lace (X̄ = 4.34). which continue to shape modern fashion trends. Also the study revealed that cultural heritage is a crucial source of inspiration for fashion designer (X̄ = 4.63) .
