The Role of Mass Media in Reporting the Activities of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission’s Activities in Nigeria

Abstract
This research work considers the role of mass media in reporting the activities of the economic and financial crime commission’s activities in Nigeria (a case study of punch newspaper). Diffusion of innovations theory and Excellence Theory. The result gotten from the sample size is then used to generalize the role of mass media in reporting the activities of the economic and financial crime commission’s activities in Nigeria. Survey method is employed in this study. From the above analysis of data obtained from questionnaire, it is observed that mass media has a great role to play in economic and financial crime commission’s activities in Nigeria. The study showed that poverty, threat to life, undue interference by government, harassment, injury and lack of laws to protect journalist are the major obstacles to media in their fight against corruption. Passage of freedom of information bill, training in investigative journalism and good remuneration are recommended for media to be effective in the fight against corruption. Data were collected through questionnaire distributed to a sample of people selected to represent the entire population was asked the series of questions in the questionnaire and from the responses conclusion were drawn. However, it is obvious that mass media as many role to play in order to fight corruption
