Abstract
The study investigates the role of women in domestic water management
in Damaturu town, with a focus on the method of domestic water
management challenges that women face, the effect and the contribution
of women in domestic water management. Using a mixed-method
approach, data were gathered through questionnaires distributed to 187
respondents in Damaturu. The results indicate that women play a pivotal
role in ensuring water quality and effective utilization. However, they face
significant challenges such as inadequate water supply, impure water
sources, and long distances to water collection points, which hinder their
participation in water management. Additionally, the study reveals that
poor water management is associated with socio-economic and health
hazards within households. The findings highlight the need for better water
infrastructure, enhanced water governance, and the inclusion of women in
decision-making processes related to water management. By addressing
the challenges faced by women and recognizing their contributions,
sustainable water management practices can be improved, benefiting
households and the broader community in Damaturu. The study concludes
with recommendations for empowering women through capacity building,
improved water supply systems, and policy interventions to strengthen
domestic water management
