Management Strategies and Performance of House Helps in Calabar Municipality of Cross River State, Nigeria

Abstract

This study determined management strategies and. performance of house helps in Calabar Municipality of Cross River State, Nigeria. To achieve the purpose of this study, three research questions and corresponding hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Related literature was reviewed based on the purpose of the study. The population of the study comprised of two hundred and forty nine house helps in Calabar Municipality. The main instrument used for data collection was questionnaire. The questionnaire contained 28 items, the instrument was validated by three experts, two from Business Education unit and one from Measurement and Evaluation in the Department of Education Foundation, Guidance and counselling. Data collected were analyzed using different statistical techniques. The research hypotheses were tested using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation. All the hypotheses were tested at .05 level of significance. The study found that communication strategy, staff training and decision making had significant relationship with house helps in Calabar Municipality of Cross River State. The study recommended among others that house helps’ should be trained on efficient time management techniques in order to improve their job performance. They need to be well informed about the required time for every activity in the house.
