Abstract
The study investigates the attitudes of women towards expired consumer products in Ikere Local Government Area, Ekiti State. Given the potential health risks associated with consuming expired products, this research explores the awareness levels, influencing factors, the role of public health education, and economic and social considerations that affect decision-making among women. A structured questionnaire was administered to 200 women, and data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and chi-square tests to determine significant relationships. Findings revealed that while a substantial proportion of women are aware of the risks associated with expired products, several factors, including financial constraints, lack of awareness, and reliance on physical inspection (such as smell and appearance), influence their decisions. The study also found a significant relationship between public health education and proper labeling practices in shaping attitudes toward expired products. Furthermore, economic conditions and social influences contribute significantly to the continued use of expired consumer goods. Based on these findings, the study recommends intensified public health campaigns, better labeling policies, and economic support initiatives to mitigate the risks associated with expired product consumption. The study contributes to the body of knowledge on consumer behavior and public health safety, emphasizing the need for increased education and awareness programs tailored to women.
