Abstract
This report investigates the application of Internet of Things (IoT) to fixed solar panel systems, outlining a comprehensive methodology for creating a cost-effective solution using Blynk software, a Node MCU ESP8266 microcontroller and sensor-based data collection. The approach emphasizes real-time monitoring of key performance indicators such as power consumption, voltage, current, and solar intensity. Additionally, the report compares IoT-enabled fixed panel systems with dual-axis solar tracking systems. While dual-axis trackers optimize energy capture by following the sun's movement, they come with higher costs, increased complexity, and greater maintenance requirements. In contrast, fixed panel systems enhanced with IoT provide a scalable, low-maintenance alternative that leverages data analytics to optimize performance, reduce operational costs, and predict maintenance needs, striking a balance between cost-effectiveness and operational efficiency, making it a viable alternative to more complex solar tracking solutions for both residential and commercial applications.
