Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the impact of violent ethno-religious conflict on inter-group relations in Kaduna North Local Government from 1999 to 2023. Kaduna North has witnessed several violent clashes, predominantly fueled by ethnic and religious tensions, leading to strained relationships among various groups. The research utilizes a questionnaire-based survey to collect primary data from residents of Kaduna North, focusing on how the conflicts have affected social interactions, trust, and cooperation between different ethnic and religious communities. The study reveals that violent ethno-religious conflicts have contributed to the fragmentation of inter-group relations, fostering distrust and deepening social divisions. However, it also identifies areas where reconciliation efforts have been somewhat successful. Recommendations are made for promoting sustainable peace, including the development of inclusive community engagement programs, inter-faith dialogues, equitable resource allocation, and enhanced government support for local peace initiatives. These recommendations aim to restore trust and rebuild positive relationships between diverse groups in the region.
