Abstract
ABSTRACT
This work examined Effectiveness of Code of Conduct in Journalism Practice in Planet FM Radio, Uyo. In order for the study to have focus; objectives were set and research questions formulated. The objectives of the study were To determine the extent to which Planet FM adheres to media code of conduct, to examine the effect of media code of conduct on the performance of Planet FM, to determine the extent to which media code of conduct influence journalism practices in Planet FM and to determine the Areas journalism Code of Conduct affect Journalism Practice in Planet FM Radio. The theories that suit the work are Social Responsibility Theory and the Development (Media) Theory; the population for this study comprises of journalists in Planet FM, Uyo. According to nominal roll of the station, the population of journalist in the station is 18. The study adopted survey research method and Census sampling technique was used to select a sample of 18 journalists in planet FM, Uyo. Data was gathered through the use of structured questionnaire. At the end, the study found that The extent to which Planet FM adheres to journalism code of conduct is high. The areas journalism code of conduct has influence Journalism Practice in Planet FM Radio are in news writing, news reporting, news editing and news credibility. The effects of journalism code of conduct on Planet FM Radio leads to professionalism in journalism practice, makes programmed presentation to be properly done as well as brings about morality in journalism. The effect of journalism code of conduct was therefore seen to be positive. Hence, it was recommended that Individual journalist should practice the journalism code of conduct in order to promote the integrity of the profession. Also, there is need for (NBC) to intervene in order to mandate the broadcast media to live up to journalism code of conduct for reliable and accurate information.
