Abstract
This study examines the relationship between corporate governance and the performance of money deposit banks in Nigeria. Effective corporate governance is crucial for the success of banks, as it enhances transparency, accountability, and risk management. The study investigates the impact of corporate governance mechanisms, such as board size, board composition, and audit committee effectiveness, on the financial performance of money deposit banks in Nigeria.
Using a sample of listed money deposit banks in Nigeria, the study employs a quantitative research approach and regression analysis to test the hypotheses. The findings suggest that corporate governance has a significant impact on the performance of money deposit banks in Nigeria. Specifically, the results show that board size, board composition, and audit committee effectiveness are positively related to bank performance.
The study contributes to the existing literature on corporate governance and bank performance, providing insights for policymakers, regulators, and bank managers on the importance of effective corporate governance in enhancing bank performance. The findings also have implications for the development of corporate governance codes and regulations in Nigeria's banking sector.
