Abstract
This study presents a comparative analysis of essential elements, specifically calcium, magnesium,
and nitrogen, in Moringa and Spinach obtained from polluted and unkwakwaci farm s. The aim
was to assess the influence of environmental pollution on the concentration of these key elements
in these two plant species. Samples of Spinach and Moringa were collected from both Kano state
polytechnic Garden and kwakwaci Farm, and the levels of calcium, magnesium, and nitrogen were
measured using Palin test photometer. The results revealed significant differences in the
concentrations of these elements between the plants from kwakwaci farm and Kano state
polytechnic Garden. In terms of calcium, Spinach from the kwakwaci farm had 50 mg/l, while the
Kano state polytechnic Garden and kwakwaci farm had 40 mg/l. Moringa, on the other hand,
showed a higher concentration of calcium in the kwakwaci Farm (96 mg/l) compared to the Kano
state polytechnic Garden and kwakwaci (56 mg/l). Magnesium levels followed a similar trend,
with Spinach from the kwakwaci farm showing 46 mg/l, and Moringa from the kwakwaci farm
showing 240 mg/l. Nitrogen levels in the samples were also measured, with Spinach from the
kwakwaci farm exhibiting a nitrogen concentration of 0.033 mg/l, while Moringa from the Kano
state polytechnic Garden and kwakwaci had 0.037 mg/l.
These findings suggest that environmental pollution plays a significant role in altering the
nutritional composition of these plants, with Moringa showing higher concentrations of essential
elements in polluted environments compared to Spinach. The results of this study emphasize the
need for monitoring the impact of pollution on agricultural products, as it may affect their
nutritional quality and public health.
