Abstract
This study conducted a stylistic analysis of selected Nigerian poems, examining the literary devices and techniques employed by Nigerian poets. Despite the rich body of literary criticism available on Nigerian poetry, there was a notable gap in comprehensive stylistic analyses that systematically examine the unique linguistic and literary techniques employed by these poets. The analysis revealed the poets' deliberate use of language, imagery, and symbolism to convey themes of cultural identity, social justice, and emotional expression. The study employed a descriptive survey design, collecting data through structured questionnaires distributed to 50 respondents. The findings show that poets such as Wole Soyinka, Gabriel Okara, Gbemisola Adeoti, and Chinua Achebe skillfully utilize literary devices to explore Nigeria's complex cultural and social landscape. The analysis also highlighted the poets' ability to evoke powerful emotions and provoke critical thinking. The study contributes to the understanding of Nigerian poetry's unique stylistic features and thematic concerns, shedding light on the country's rich literary heritage. The research provided insights for scholars, literary critics, and readers seeking to deepen their understanding of Nigerian poetry.
