Abstract
This study investigates the factors influencing students' choice of Chemistry Education in Bayero University Kano. Amid fluctuating enrollment trends and the growing need for qualified science educators, the study aims to identify personal, institutional, and societal factors shaping students' decisions to pursue Chemistry Education. A descriptive survey research design was adopted, with data collected from a stratified random sample of undergraduate students across 100 to 400 levels in the Department of Science and Technology Education. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire validated by experts and pilot-tested to ensure clarity and reliability. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequencies, percentages, and mean scores. The findings revealed that personal interest in chemistry, perceived career opportunities, quality of teaching staff, and the availability of academic resources were significant determinants of students' program choice. Societal influences such as family expectations and peer encouragement also played a notable role. However, challenges such as limited awareness of career paths in chemistry and misconceptions about the subject's difficulty level negatively impacted student enrollment. The study concluded that a combination of motivational, academic, and societal factors influences students' academic choices. It recommended that enhanced career guidance, improved teaching resources, and increased awareness campaigns to boost interest and enrollment in Chemistry Education.
