Pictorial Methods of Teaching as a Learning Strategy to Develop the Creative Writing Skills of Primary School Students in Ikere Local Government Area

Abstract
This study was conducted to assess the impact of pictorial methods on the development of creative writing skills among primary school pupils in Ikere Local Government Area, Ekiti State. Data was collected using two primary instruments: a teacher questionnaire to evaluate the frequency, consistency, and effectiveness of pictorial methods in teaching creative writing, and the Pictorial Creative Writing Task (PCWT) to assess pupils’ creativity, coherence, and descriptive detail in writing based on visual prompts. A total of 200 primary school pupils and 40 teachers from four primary schools in the study area participated in the study. The findings from the teacher questionnaire indicated that while pictorial methods were regularly used in creative writing lessons, their consistent application varied across teachers. A majority of teachers believed that pictorial methods helped students generate creative ideas, organize their thoughts, and produce more coherent and detailed narratives.
