Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study is an empirical evidence of environmental costs and performance of listed industrial companies in Nigeria with reference to Dangote Cement Plc. The increasing concern about environmental degradation and resources depletion becomes a source of worry to humanity, as many listed companies faced youth restiveness due to unemployment and deficient of social amenities. As a result of this, the main objective was stated to determine the influence of environmental cost and performance of Dangote Cement Plc. The study used expost facto design. Descriptive statistics and simple linear regression were used to analyze the hypothesis. However, the findings revealed that there is a positive significant influence of environmental cost and performance in Dangote Cement Plc. It was therefore concluded that environmental cost (infrastructural related cost, health related cost, educational programme cost and youth empowerment development cost) is a key important way of maximizing profitability in Dangote Cement Plc. It was recommended that investment in environmental cost should be improved by companies as this leads to more customer’s patronage, a better corporate image and increase in profit to the year.
