Abstract
ABSTRACT
The fundamental global environmental issue in both developed and developing countries is how best to manage waste. Wastes that are discharged from residential, commercial, and institutional activities make up the large proportion of Municipal Solid Wastes (MSW). MSW generation in urban areas has increased in recent decade as a result of increasing population, urbanization, and improved lifestyles. This work aimed to assess the knowledge, practice and factors affecting solid waste management in terminus market Jos, Jos North local government area of Plateau State, Nigeria. Investigating the knowledge of marketers on solid wastes management, types of solid wastes generated in Terminus market, level of solid wastes management practices in Terminus market, factors affecting solid waste management. The study employed a descriptive research design and data collected using questionnaires from a purposive sampling technique. The study employed the Theory of Planned behavior (TPB), proposed by Isaac Ajzen (1991). The research used a quantitative method for data analysis on which various analytical operations were performed, including generation of percentages, tables, and frequencies. majority of the respondent were have heard about solid waste management but do not know the environmental impact of poor waste management, they also know the factors affecting the management of solid waste by marketers in terminus market, majority of the type of solid waste within terminus market is paper and carton, they respondents also noted poor solid waste management within terminus market. it was recommended that seminars, workshops and conferences on solid waste management should be encouraged, marketers to maintain a positive attitude on solid waste management, Health educators should also provide good knowledge that can influence practice of solid waste management and marketers should be responsible in proper disposal of their waste.
