Perception and Attitude Towards Family and Peer Group Stress Among Senior Secondary School in Sabon Gari Local Government Kaduna Nigria

Abstract

This study titled Perception and Attitude towards Family and Peer Group Stress among Senior Secondary Biology Students was carried out at Sabon-Gari, Kaduna State. Four research objectives and four research questions guided the study. The research has the population of 11,517 and the sample for the study comprised of three hundred and seventy two Biology students drawn from the population of the study. The instrument for data collection in this study was structured questionnaire tittle: Student Family and Peer Group Stress Questionnaire (SFPQS). It was validated and reliability was determined with split - half method to derive a cronbach alpha value at 0.76.Instrument was administrated over a period of two-weeks. Mean and standard deviation was used for analysis. Major findings revealed that family and peer group stress was perceived to affect senior secondary biology students. Recommendation among others include: The Kaduna-state government should establish counseling units in all secondary schools within the state. These units should be equipped with qualified counselors trained in adolescent psychology and stress management
