Determination of Heavy Metals in African Bony Fish (flesh)

Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study examines the concentration of heavy metals in the flesh of African bony fish to evaluate their potential health risks. Heavy metal contamination in aquatic organisms is a significant concern due to bioaccumulation and toxicity effects. In this study, the levels of Zinc (Zn), Copper (Cu), Arsenic (As), Cadmium (Cd), Chromium (Cr), and Iron (Fe) were analyzed using standard methods. The results revealed the following concentrations: Zn (6.85 mg/kg), Cu (3.12 mg/kg), As (0.006 mg/kg), Cd (0.015 mg/kg), Cr (0.071 mg/kg), and Fe (19.44 mg/kg). Standard deviations were calculated to assess the accuracy of the data. The findings provide insights into the safety of consuming African bony fish and contribute to environmental monitoring efforts.
