Implementation of Network-Attached Storage With Raspberry Pl for Edo State University

Abstract

This project presents the implementation of a network-attached storage device that could be used by the students and teachers at Edo State University Iyamho for running containerized applications for streaming music and data storage. This study was prompted by the poor file sharing infrastructure present within the university, and concerns over data privacy rights and unconsented data scraping for large language models. The method used in this study is mixed, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative methods to provide a more comprehensive analysis. The core device employed for this was the Raspberry Pi 4 model B, running a Debian-based operating system with Open Media Vault software. After flashing a compatible version of Raspbian on an SD card and installing OMV using a bash script, several configurations were made to create shared folders that could be accessed on client devices. The result of this project produces a NAS device that enhances the efficiency of file sharing, remote data repositories and application containerization for students and lecturers at Edo State University Iyamho. This study can also be used as a foundation to create a NAS for larger institutions.
