Abstract
This study explores the potential of Newbouldia laevis as a sustainable source of natural colorants for fabric dyeing. The colorants were extracted from the plant using a solvent-based method (methanol, isopropyl alcohol and acetone), and their chemical composition was characterized using spectroscopic techniques. The extracted colorants were then used to dye cotton fabrics, and the dyeing process was optimized to achieve maximum color yield and color fastness. The eco-friendliness of the dyeing process was assessed using various sustainability metrics, including water and energy consumption, waste generation, and biodegradability. The results show that the natural colorants from Newbouldia laevis can be used to produce vibrant and durable colors on cotton fabrics, while also offering a more sustainable alternative to synthetic dyes. This study demonstrates the potential of Newbouldia laevis as a sustainable source of natural colorants for the textile industry.
