Perception and attitude towards household and Community sanitation in federal housing estate in ado Ekiti, ekiti state.

Abstract
This study examined the present condition of household and community sanitation in the Federal housing estates in Ado-Ekiti. Specifically, the study examined the present state of household and community sanitation condition in the Federal housing estates in Ado-Ekiti, investigated the perception of residents of federal housing estates in Ado-Ekiti about their household and community sanitation, identified the various forms of household and community sanitation problem in each household and assessed the possible actions that can be taken towards sustainable Housing and community sanitation in the study area. The study was of a descriptive survey research design. The study population covers the entire households in federal housing estate in Ado Ekiti metropolis. From the population, a sample size of 200 households be selected for the purpose of this study. These households will be chosen using random sampling technique for this study. Data collected were analyzed with the use of descriptive statistics, such as frequency counts and percentages with the Statistical Package for Social Sciences. The study revealed that main source of water in the households in the Federal Housing estates in Ado Ekiti include bottled water, sachet water, pipe-borne water, public borehole, private borehole, protected well and piped. Also, the types of refuse containment use in different households in the Federal household are bin container, sack container, polythene container and waste bin. Also, it was unveiled that the main means of solid waste disposal use by different households include authorized collector public or government, authorized collector private or business, unauthorized collector and public approved dustbin. Thereafter, it was disclosed that the main means of disposing water waste from bathroom, kitchen and laundry is the use of sewage system. The basic type of toilet facility in different households is water closet. Thus, it was concluded that community and household sanitation is highly effective and efficient, though some delimitations are affecting the sanitation’s efficiency. It was recommended that the government should construct a better drainage system as this would promote present state of household and community sanitation condition in the Federal housing estates in Ado-Ekiti.
