Abstract
The pursuit of excellence in sports is a complex phenomenon influenced by various factors. This study investigated the relationship between personality traits, football infrastructure, and sports performance among female football players. A sample of 150 female footballers from Osun State, Nigeria, participated in the study. The research design was correlational, utilizing standardized questionnaires to assess personality traits (Big Five Inventory) and football infrastructure (Football Infrastructure Questionnaire). Sports performance was evaluated using a standardized sports performance assessment tool.
The findings revealed significant positive relationships between certain personality traits (conscientiousness, extraversion, and agreeableness) and sports performance. Furthermore, football infrastructure (facilities, equipment, and coaching) significantly predicted sports performance. The results suggest that personality traits and football infrastructure are crucial predictors of sports performance among female footballers.
The study's findings have implications for coaches, sports administrators, and policymakers. Coaches can utilize the findings to identify and develop the personality traits that enhance sports performance. Sports administrators can invest in improving football infrastructure to create a conducive environment for female footballers to excel. Policymakers can develop policies that promote the development of female football, focusing on infrastructure and athlete support.
The study contributes to the growing body of literature on the psychological and environmental factors influencing sports performance. The findings can inform the development of interventions and programs aimed at enhancing the performance of female footballers. Future research can build upon this study by exploring other factors influencing sports performance and investigating the effectiveness of interventions based on the study's findings.
Overall, this study highlights the importance of considering both personality traits and football infrastructure in efforts to improve sports performance among female footballers. By understanding these factors, stakeholders can work together to create a supportive environment that fosters excellence in female football.
