Abstract
ABSTRACTThis research explores the contribution of Western education to the development of Islamic education in Sokoto State, Nigeria. It examines the differences between Western and Islamic education, the impact of Western education on Islamic educational practices, and the factors through which Western education has influenced Islamic education. Using a mixed-method approach, the study draws insights from key stakeholders, including educators, policymakers, and students, to highlight the integration and harmonization of the two educational systems. The findings reveal significant contributions of Western education to curriculum enhancement, pedagogical innovations, and the promotion of multiculturalism within Islamic education. Western education has facilitated the introduction of modern teaching methods, technology integration, and a broader understanding of global trends in education, contributing to the professionalization of Islamic educators. It also fosters inclusivity by bridging linguistic and cultural gaps, enabling students from diverse backgrounds to participate in Islamic educational programs. This research underscores the potential for a cohesive and complementary relationship between the two systems, advocating for policies and practices that sustain this synergy. Recommendations include increasing collaborative efforts in curriculum development, capacity-building initiatives for educators, and the integration of ethical and cultural values from both systems to produce well-rounded individuals prepared for contemporary challenges.
