Abstract
ABSTRACTThis project focuses on the design of a modern cattle ranch located in Gombe State, Nigeria, with the primary aim of integrating sustainable agricultural practices, improved animal welfare, and community participation into a single functional and environmentally responsive design. The proposal responds to the growing need for organized livestock management systems in Nigeria, addressing challenges such as open grazing, environmental degradation, and conflicts between herders and farmers. By adopting architectural and planning principles suited to the climatic and socio-cultural context of northern Nigeria, the design seeks to promote a model for efficient and humane cattle production. The project draws inspiration from traditional Nigerian architectural forms, utilizing locally sourced materials and passive design techniques to ensure thermal comfort, energy efficiency, and minimal environmental impact. The layout of the ranch incorporates zones for administration, veterinary care, feed storage, housing, training, grazing, and market interaction, ensuring effective circulation and operational harmony. Furthermore, the design emphasizes water conservation, waste recycling, and renewable energy integration to enhance sustainability. Beyond the physical structures, the project envisions a community-oriented approach where ranching becomes not only an economic activity but also a driver of education, research, and rural development. Ultimately, the proposed cattle ranch design serves as a prototype for future agricultural developments in Nigeria balancing productivity, ecology, and human needs within a cohesive architectural framework.
