Abstract
ABSTRACT
The study examined Librarians' social variables and service delivery in University of Calabar Library, Cross River State, Nigeria. To achieve the purpose of the study, three hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Two theories were used for the study. Literature review was carried out accordingly, survey research design was adopted for the study. A population of 222 librarians was used. A sample of two hundred and two (202) library staff was used for the study. The sample was selected through the purposive technique. The questionnaire was the main instrument used for data collection. The reliability estimate of the instrument was established through cronbach Alpha reliability method. One way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and independent t-test was the statistical technique employed to test the hypothesis under study. Each hypothesis was tested at 0.5 level of significance. The result of the analysis revealed that; librarians attitude, librarians promotion and librarians salary increment significantly influenced service delivery in University of Calabar library of Cross River State, Nigeria. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that University management should employ well trained professionals in a library and a librarian must be ready to implement social variables effectively. Also, professional Ethics in line with positive attitude should be included in the library and information curriculum to educate the students and Librarians as their core value, while also ensuring that proper and regular library orientation or users and teachers education programs is carried out for library users; as this will remind them of the rules governing the use of the library.
