Leadership Problems in Public Organization in Akwa Ibom State, (a Case Study of Akwa Ibom Saving and Loans Limited)

Abstract
Leadership has been considered as one of the most important element that is needed in the achievement of organisation goals and objectives Managing and leading in the public organization can be defined somewhat challenging task. In the situation, where the country's legislation and organizational bureaucracy are commanding the roles and cuties of the leaders, the quality of leadership skills and methods is offer underestimated. Today, many public organizations and institutions are over managed but under led due to lack of visionary leadership, lack of dedicated to the underlying values of public services, and the non interest of the citizens served has become a custom in the public organization, Self preservation is preferred to national interest as well. Therefore this study seeks to examine the various leadership styles adopted in the Akwa savings and loan limited, Eket and to identify the various problems associated with these leadership styles. The study employed descripove and analytical research method. Secondary Dyid primary data sources were used. The primary data were collected through administration of structure questionnaires. Data were analysed through the use of simple percentage table and interpreted accordingly The findings revealed mat there are no particular leadership styles in use in the organization, the managers follow any styles of leadership depending on the situation and the manager dedicated the major responsibilities to the subordinate without supervision. Leaders are chosen bived on favountism and hige performance is not rewarded accordingly thereby discouraging the subordinate and creating self-preference to national interest. The study recommend that management should create an atmosphere that will helps to remove obstacles to effectiveness: such as favouritism, poor reward system and lack of recognition base on ment which may affect values in the organisation and antagonism, and frustration must be identified and removed. Managernent should also ensure sufficient flow of communication this will create role for increased productivity The study will review the wrong style of leadership responsible for leadership problems in Alva savings and loans limited, Eket in other to harness effective leadership resulting in a more organized setting in the organization. Recommendara will be made or correct leadership ills not on η Αλινάgs and loans limited, Eket but in other organization that would use them
