The Effectiveness of Internal Audit in a Government Organization (a Study of Akwa Saving and Loans Ltd Eket)

Abstract
This study was designed to evaluate the “The effectiveness of internal audit in a government organization,” taking a study of Akwa savings and loans Ltd Eket. The objective of the study was to know how internal audit bring about efficiency in government establishment. The data for the study was gather from both primary and secondary source and the data collected through administration of questionnaires was analyzed, presented and interpreted using tables simple percentage and the result of this findings indicated that internal auditing help in the efficiency of a government organization by ensuring proper book keeping and also it was discovered that the internal audit report does not have positive response from the management of Akwa saving and loans to this end the researcher recommended that management should respond positively to audit report. Independence of internal audit department and employment of qualified accountant oversee the internal audit department for effective and efficient internal audit function in the organization.
