Motivation of Employee’s Commitment With Mediating Role of Job Engagement of Public and Private Universities in Ekiti State

The study examined the motivation of employee commitment on performance with a mediating effect on job engagement of public and private Universities in Ekiti State. The study determined the effect of employee commitment on performance; evaluated the effect of job engagement on performance and examined the extent of the mediation of job engagement on employee commitment and performance.
A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study constituted both teaching and non-teaching staff of public and private Universities in Ekiti State. The sample size was 375 using Yamane (1967) sampling model. Primary data used for the study were gathered through structured questionnaire. Data gathered were analyzed using multiple regression.
The result showed that employee commitment positively affects performance as it was significant on performance; Furthermore, showed that job engagement positively affects performance as it was significant on performance; and finally, job engagement mediating effect of employee commitment significantly affect performance as it was significant on performance all at 0.05 level of significance. Thus, the study concluded, that employee commitment and job engagement statistically and significantly affects the performance of public and private Universities in Ekiti State.
