Abstract
The study assessed the impact of crude oil pollution on soil and groundwater in Izombe, Imo State. Samples from a polluted site (Umuokwu) and a non-polluted site (Ugbele) were analyzed for physical, chemical, and biological properties. Results showed that crude oil spillage increased clay content and bulk density while reducing porosity, cation exchange capacity, and nutrient availability. Groundwater quality remained within permissible limits, though long-term contamination risks exist. Bioremediation and consistent monitoring are recommended to restore soil productivity and prevent groundwater pollution.
