Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of the ethanol extract of Pleurotus ostreatus using a carrageenan-induced paw edema model in rats. Pleurotus ostreatus are known for their diverse bioactive compounds, which have been reported to possess various medicinal properties, including anti-inflammatory effects. Twenty-five (25) rats were divided into five (5) groups, with each group receiving different doses 100 mg/kg, 200 mg/kg, and 400 mg/kg/bw of the ethanol extract, while the positive control group received Indomethacin (10 mg/kg), and the control group was given 3ml of distilled water. The results indicated that the ethanol extract of Pleurotus ostreatus exhibited anti-inflammatory activity, as evidenced by a reduction in paw edema across the treated groups. However, the anti-inflammatory effect was not statistically significant compared to the control group. The anti-inflammatory effect demonstrated by the ethanol extract of Pleurotus ostreatus could be attributed to its bioactive constituents, such as flavonoids. In conclusion, further studies should be conducted to ascertain the mechanisms of action
