The Impact of Big Brother Naija on Bouesti Students’ Moral Direction

This study investigates the impact of Big Brother Naija on the moral direction of BOUESTI students in Ikere, Ekiti State. It examines the level of exposure of BOUESTI undergraduates to the show, assesses their attitudes towards the content, and explores the themes portrayed on BBNaija. The research design in this study is survey research design to gather data from a diverse sample of students, aiming to identify correlations between viewership and moral behavior. Relevant literature is reviewed to contextualize the findings within existing frameworks of media influence on youth. This study seeks to contribute to the discourse on reality television's role in shaping societal values and the moral compass of young adults in Nigeria. The population of the study was 13,500 students of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti State. A sample size of 388 was determined through Taro Yamane (1967). Data was collected through the use of questionnaire. Findings revealed that BOUESTI Students are exposed to be Big Brotber Naija.
Findings of the study indicate that a significant portion of BOUESTI students are regularly exposed to Big Brother Naija, and their engagement with the show appears to influence their perceptions of acceptable behavior and social norms. The study also identifies specific themes within the show that resonate with students, such as relationships, conflict resolution, and moral dilemmas, suggesting that these elements may play a crucial role in shaping their moral outlook. This research aims to shed light on the complexities of media consumption among youth and its potential ramifications for ethical decision-making and moral development.
