Abstract
This project focused on the production of reinforced bio plastics with banana pseudo stem fibers, the raw materials, and the possible problems that may be encountered in the course of production. Also, the quantities of the fibers in the composites were varied. 10% BPSF composition was used as well as 50% BPSF composition in the plastic matrix. This project was aimed at improving performance of the plastic matrix and innovating method of salvaging waste materials turning them to useful industrial products.
FTIR, SEM/EDS and water absorption analysis were carried out to characterize the sample to determine morphology, chemical composition and water absorption parameters. The reinforcement was determined to be effective and further research could be done to address issues such as fiber treatment and brittleness of polypropylene after recycling.
