Abstract
Knowledge sharing holds potential benefits for librarians and their academic libraries, however, there are several challenges hindering its effective implementation. The changing landscape of information presentation, driven by online and electronic sources, has prompted academic libraries to adapt and cater for the evolving needs of their increasingly independent clients. Librarians must navigate this dynamic environment and harness knowledge sharing tools within information systems to optimize knowledge exchange. The research design employed in this study is descriptive, and data collection is facilitated through structured questionnaires. The study population includes 120 librarians from all universities in Ekiti state. The questionnaire consists of 2 sections, encompassing demographic details, the extent of knowledge sharing, types of information systems utilized and problems militating against knowledge sharing. The study reveals that librarians in academic libraries perceive knowledge sharing as an integral aspect of their professional practice, frequently engaging in the exchange of new skills and insights with their colleagues. The findings emphasize that effective team knowledge and decision-making are significant advantages gained through this knowledge-sharing culture. However, the research also identifies several barriers that hinder knowledge sharing, including the need for enhanced understanding of best practices, education on social networking, and proficiency in modern technology, overcoming communication obstacles, and establishing optimal work schedules for effective knowledge Exchange knowledge sharing holds potential benefits for librarians and their academic libraries, however, there are several challenges hindering its effective implementation.
