Audience Assessment of the Role of Listeners and Perception of Credibility of Campus Radio Station

Abstract
Abstract
This study examined listener’s perception of the credibility of campus radio station. The
study was aimed at examining how listeners perceive broadcast journalism. The focus was
on Auchi Polytechnic Students. This means that data were gathered from students of Auchi
Polytechnic, Auchi. The questionnaire was used as the instrument of data collection while
the simple percentage was used to analyze the data collected. This means that statistical
tables were used to present the data collected. The study revealed radio plays a significant
role in the lives of young people, as it inform, educate and entertain. The study also
revealed that gender and discipline to an extent influences radio exposure. The study also
revealed that environmental factors such as epileptic power, busy schedule, etc affect the
access to radio of respondents. The study recommends amongst others that the management
of radio stations should improve on their programming style; because Auchi Polytechnic
students’ responses have shown that programming influences their attitude towards radio
station. If radio stations are able to do this it will further increase the positive attitude
towards radio programmes.
