Electoral Malpractice and Student Union Governance in Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (2020-2023)

The study examined Electoral malpractice and student union governance in Ignatius Ajuru University of Education. In course of the study, three research objectives were formulated in line with the aim of the study, the objectives are to determine the forms of electoral malpractice in Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, assess the effect of electoral malpractice in student’s union election in Ignatius Ajuru University of Education and to assess the measures put in place to tackle electoral malpractice in Ignatius Ajuru University of Education. The study employed the use rational choice theory, Resource Based theory and Institutional theory to explain the relationship between electoral malpractice and student union governance. The population of the study is about 166,324 from different faculties, with a sample size of 399 drawn based on the random sampling technique. The key survey research design was employed which allowed for the application of simple percentage analysis in the interpretation primary data. The findings of the study prove that there is a significant implication of electoral malpractices on student union elections in Ignatius Ajuru University of Education school management. Hence, the study recommended that Emphasis should be located on fierce wrestling against Electoral malpractices and the capacity to institute disciplines against the culprits.
