Influence of Corporate Sponsorships and Media Coverage on Grassroots Women Football Development in Abuja.

Abstract
Grassroots sports are extremely important to any developing sporting nation. It is a foundation for high performance sport. More importantly, when delivered well, it creates immense value and develops more talents for the country in the years to come. Also, media and sports stakeholders has failed to contribute to grassroots women football development. Despite this, previous studies mainly focused on football development, with little concentration on factors predicting it, specifically among women. This study examined the influence of corporate sponsorships and media coverage on grassroots women football development in Abuja. Descriptive survey research design was adopted. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 100 respondents; while a self-developed questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. The descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentages were used for the analysis of demographic. Inferential statistics of Pearson product moment correlation was used to analyse research questions, while multiple regression was used to test the hypotheses. The result of this study revealed that sponsorship value, target audience, sponsorship entity and increased awareness and participation had significant positive relationship with grassroots women football development in Abuja, while attracting sponsorship and investment and aggressive sports programme did not.
