Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices of Covid-19 Preventive Measures Among Market Women in Uromi Community Edo State

Abstract
An emerging respiratory disease was abbreviated as COVID 19, after it has been reported in December 2019 in Wuhan city of China. The virus is zoonotic which has tendency to be transmitted between animal to human and human to human. The major route of transmission of COVID – 19 is droplet and close contact. Nigeria ministry of health has initiated training for health care workers at a different level. WHO and CDC also initiated a multidisciplinary approach to tackle COVID-19. COVID-19, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, is spreading rapidly worldwide, with devastating consequences for patient, healthcare workers, health system, and economies Thus, the main objective of this study was to assess knowledge attitude and practice of COVID-19 measures among market women in uromi community Edo state. The descriptive crossectional design was used. The convenience sampling technique was used to draw a sample size if 150 women who either buy or sell in uromi market day. A researcher administered questionnaire was used for data collection and percentages and frequency were used to analyze the data. Findings revealed that respondents had good knowledge (97.2%) of covid-19 and a negative (70%) attitude towards the prevention of covid-19 transmission. This was reflected by the majority (84.1%) still believes that covid-19 is a scam while (68.28%) of the respondent affirmed that precautionary measures are not necessary for prevention. Furthermore, the market women practise of preventive strategies showed that 58% of the respondents had a good practise, 29% had a fair practise while 13% had a poor practise of covid-19 preventive measures. Bases on these findings, it is recommended that more details of covid-19 disease should be included in awareness messages directed at people living in endemic areas including villages.
