Epidemiology of Cyber Victimization Among Urban University Undergraduate Student’s in Ekiti State

ABSTRACT
This study investigates the epidemiology of cyber victimization among urban university undergraduate students in Ekiti State, Nigeria. Utilizing a purposive sampling method, data were collected from 100 students through a cross-sectional exploratory descriptive research design. The study aims to identify the prevalence and types of cyber victimization that students encounter, examine the demographic factors contributing to such victimization, assess the psychological, mental, and social implications of cyber victimization, explore the coping strategies employed by affected students, and analyze the prevalence measures of cyber victimization in this demographic. Grounded in the lifestyle exposure theory, the research highlights how various demographic factors intersect to influence experiences of cyber victimization and reveals the significant mental health repercussions faced by students. The findings emphasize the critical need for awareness and targeted interventions within university settings to mitigate the impact of cyber victimization. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS, revealing significant insights into both the frequency and nature of victimization experiences among students. This study underscores the importance of understanding and addressing cyber victimization as integral to fostering a safe educational environment.
