Budget Control and Financial Performance in a Public Institution

Abstract
This study focused on budget control and financial performance in public institution. The specific objectives of the study were to examine impact of budget implementation on the financial performance in public institution, investigate the impact of budget committee and oversight on the financial performance in public institution and determine the effect of budget preparation on the financial performance in public institution. The study was limited to Ministry of Finance, Osun State. The study adopted field survey research design and eighty (80) respondents were used as the sample size. Primary data was sought from the selected respondents with of questionnaire. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) was used as the statistical tool and regression method of data analysis was used to test the research hypotheses at the 5% level of significant. The study found that budget implementation has significant relationship with accountability. Furthermore, it was revealed that budget committee and oversight have significant relationship with accountability. Finally, the study found that budget preparation has significant relationship with accountability. Based on these findings, the study concluded that budgetary control has been very important tool of achieving greater level of financial performance in public institution. Therefore, the study recommended that government should employ more efficient budgetary control measures in other to ensure that they provide services that will satisfy the needs of the populace.
