Abstract
Abstract
Nigeria, renowned as the “Giant of Africa,” possesses immense tourism potential rooted in its rich cultural diversity, historical heritage, and diverse natural ecosystems. Despite these advantages, the country continues to face challenges such as insecurity, inadequate infrastructure, and weak international marketing, all of which impede its ability to compete effectively in the global tourism arena. In response, Nigeria has increasingly turned to its foreign policy as a strategic tool for promoting international tourism. Through the use of diplomatic missions, international collaborations, and the projection of a positive national image abroad, Nigeria seeks to attract foreign tourists and stimulate economic growth. This study examines the nexus between foreign policy and tourism development, highlighting how a proactive and well-coordinated foreign policy framework can serve as a catalyst for revitalizing the tourism sector. The research underscores the importance of leveraging diplomacy to enhance Nigeria’s global visibility, diversify its economy beyond oil dependence, and attract both tourists and tourism-related investments. Ultimately, the study provides insights into how Nigeria can harness its foreign policy instruments to overcome existing challenges and position itself as a leading tourism destination in Africa and beyond.
