Abstract
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is widely acclaimed for its therapeutic properties, attributed primarily to its bioactive compounds, including curcuminoids and turmerones. This project delves into the methods for extracting turmeric oil and its oil resin, analyzing their chemical compositions and potential applications. Two primary extraction techniques are examined: soxhlet extraction and simple maceration. The study reveals that soxhlet extraction using n hexane yields a higher quantity of turmeric oil, rich in turmerones, while Simple maceration, using ethanol, produces an oil resin with a concentrated curcuminoid content. UV_Vis specphometry and antioxidant assays are employed to evaluate the extracts ‘quality and efficacy. The findings suggest significant implications for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food industries, highlighting the importance of choosing appropriate extraction methods to maximize yield and therapeutic potential. This report underscores the need for further research to optimize extraction processes and enhance the application of turmeric-derived products. Specifically, the study discusses the efficiency and limitations of each extraction technique, providing insights into improving the quality of turmeric extracts. The comprehensive analysis of chemical constituents and antioxidant properties establishes a foundation for developing standardized protocols for turmeric oil and oil resin extraction, promoting their use in various industrial applications.
