Abstract
Cucumber fruit, traditionally used as an ingredient in soap and possibly in folklore medicine, was sampled and analysed for its oil content. The oil was extracted and analysed for both its composition and physiochemical parameters. The oil content was found to be 20.45%, ash content 3.12%, relative density 0.7940, peroxide value (mg/KOH) 35.0, saponification value (mg/KOH) 187.22, iodine value 12.06, and acid value 2.02. Analysis of the composition and physiochemical properties of oil from cucumber seeds classified the cucumber seeds as oilseeds. This oil cannot be adequately used for fertilizer manufacture but can be used in soap making and is safe for human consumption due to its low acid value
